Villa Boscoreale

Roman Domus at Boscoreale
The ancient Roman Villa Boscoreale gets its name from the town of Boscoreale, where it is locate. Not far from Pompeii, this area was a hunting reserve and also used agriculturally, specializing in wine and olive oil. Evidence in tablets and graffiti shows that the house was probably built in the 1st century (around 30-40) BC. The villa was largely destroyed and entirely buried burned by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. A private escavation discovered the site, that was partially buried back in 1900. Many museums today have paintings depicting this famous villa.
